| Fewer asylum seekers to Norway |

In February this year 711 asylum seekers arrived in Norway. This is 40 per cent fewer than in February last year, according to fresh figures from the Immigration Directorate (UDI). So far this year 1552 applications for asylum in Norway have been registered, a decline of 39 per cent compared with the same period last year. Most asylum seekers come from Eritrea, Afghanistan and Somalia. Four out of ten asylum seekers come from one of these three countries, according to UDI. |

A chemical tanker with 21 crew members has been hijacked by Somali pirates near Madagascar, the Norwegian owner said Saturday. Two nine-year-old Norwegian girls playing on slippery coastal rocks near Kristiansund in Norway fell into the sea on Sunday. Both were found, but died later at the local hospital. The girls reportedly were playing on the large rocks, called svaberg, that slope into the sea at a park area at Karihola, north of the city on Norway’s northwest coast.
