Nigeria imports fish worth about N109.2 billion ($700 million) annually from Norway, the Norwegian Ambassador to Nigeria, Kjell Lillerud has said. He said this yesterday in Abuja when he visited the Minister of state for Trade and Investment, Dr Samuel Ortom.Lillerud said that though he does not have the tonnage of fish that gets to Nigeria, there are three categories with stock fish taking the lead.

Norway and Russia plan path towards Arctic energy exploration

Norway announced an initiative this week to invest about 1 million USD towards a Norwegian-Russian project that will assess the technology needed to develop the untapped oil fields in the Arctic region, particularly in the Barents Sea. The project has a total funding estimate of about 2.7 million USD over three years and will include partners such as INTSOK, Gazprom, Tschudi Shipping, and others.

Garolin immolated herself along with the baby, the Norwegian police think.

Swedish officials are investigating an author's claims that the Norwegian Nobel Committee has not been honoring Alfred Nobel's last wishes, officials say. Norwegian author and law professor Fredrik S. Heffermehl has been writing books and opinion pieces for several years claiming the last wishes of Alfred Nobel are not being honored. Nobel's will states the Nobel Peace Prize shall be given to: "the person who shall have done the most or the best work for fraternity between nations, for the abolition or reduction of standing armies and for the holding and promotion of peace congress."
 
India, Norway to cooperate in renewable energy

Telenor mobile licences in India cancelled

The Indian Supreme Court has cancelled 122 cellular phone licences granted by the Government of India in 2008, including 22 licences to Uninor, a daughter of Norway's Telenor. The revoking is effective 4 months from yesterday, Thursday. The Supreme Court delivered its judgment on a public interest petition. It was alleged that the grant of licences in 2008 had been made at too low a price.
 
CargoNet to launch new intermodal shuttle in Norway

Freight operator CargoNet is to launch a shuttle service to transport containers and semi-trailers between Kristiansand and the recently-opened Ganddal terminal near Stavanger (both Norway) on 17 April. The train will initially operate on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The service will augment the existing shuttle services connecting both port cities with Oslo.
 
Norway to increase bilateral loan to IMF

Norwegian officials resisted calls for the children to be reunited with their grandparents in India pending an inquiry and India's external affairs minister has called for the children to be repatriated.

Telenor entered India's growing telecom market in 2009, paying $1.1 billion for a majority stake in mobile firm Uninor, which holds 22 of the 122 licences cancelled by the Supreme Court on Thursday. The figure was in line with the median estimate of 13 analysts surveyed by Bloomberg.

Foreign media produce documentaries about Utøya

2 convicted in Norway of plotting terror attack

Two men accused of plotting to attack a Danish newspaper that caricatured the Prophet Mohammed were found guilty Monday of terror charges in Norway, the first convictions under the country's anti-terror laws. National Taiwan Museum found the photos so interesting it is now running an exhibition called, “Impressions of Taiwan’s Railways.” The showcase will include more than 20 of Loren Aandahl's pictures with added photos made by Huang Hsu-min (born 1918). Hsu-min is a former Taiwan Railway Administration employee with a great love for photography.

The Norwegian prime minister has apologised for the role his country played in deporting its own Jews as Europe marks Holocaust Remembrance Day. It is believed to be the first time a Norwegian leader has been so explicit about collusion under Nazi occupation. More than a third of Norway's 2,100 Jews were deported to death camps.

Low cost carrier Norwegian has unveiled plans to purchase 222 new aircraft: it has placed a firm order for 100 Boeing 737 Max and 22 737-800s and signed an MoU with Airbus for 100 A320neos. The deal is worth Norwegian kroner 127 billion ($22 billion), the carrier said in a statement. The deal includes purchase rights for an additional 100 737 Max and 50 A320neos.

Norway’s foreign minister will head to Burma soon to continue to push for reform in the country, and says the changing landscape there could turn looming Norwegian investment into a constructive force that can integrate Burma into the global economy. The government in Norway announced last week that it would drop sanctions on Burma, although it continues to align itself with remaining EU sanctions on the country. Foreign Minister Jonas Gahr Støre told DVB in an interview that the country would now push for “normal relations” with Naypyidaw.

A growing number of unemployed Europeans come to Norway to find a job. But, they end up without jobs and have to live on streets.  According to NTB, Tax Administration reported that there is a 33% increase in the number of Spanish citizens entering in Norway to work. The number of Greeks who are applying for tax card to work also increased by 82 percent from the year before. Italians have also increasingly flowed in Norway. But not everyone gets a chance to use their tax cards. Many are generally unemployed for several months.
