Norway offers assistance to Japan
[13.03.2011, 07:52am, Sun. GMT]
Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg says Norway has offered Japan search and rescue assistance following the earth quake and tsunami disaster which hit the northern part of the country on Friday. However, Japan must decide if this is necessary. Japan is probably the country in the world which is best equipped to handle a crisis such as this, Stoltenberg says. The Norwegian Prime Minister was to have visited Japan this coming week, but the visit has been postponed.

The Norwegian Department of Foreign Affairs says there are still around five Norwegians still not accounted for in Japan, following the tsunami, one of them is an 18-year-old exchange student. However, it points out that communications are badly damaged in the disaster area.
