Chinese yard holds offshore conference in Norway
[09.12.2011, 12:51pm, Fri. GMT]
China's Sinopacific shipbuilding group organized its first 'Sinopacific Offshore Conference' in Ålesund, Norway. About 100 executives and experts attended the conference, including Simon Liang, Chairman & CEO of Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group as well as leading offshore suppliers such as ABB, Kongsberg and Ulstein. This is the first time a Chinese yard has organized a conference of this type in Norway. The purpose of the conference was to establish closer and more extensive cooperative with suppliers and other partners.

The Shanghai-based company, which employs over 20,000 people in its yards, is one of the fastest-growing companies in China’s shipbuilding industry.

In September Sinopacific established an office in Fosnavaag in Norway to assist the group in further integrating its equipment supply chain, especially in the offshore market.

The new Norwegian company is expected to provide technical support and production/management advice for the shipyard, serving as a contact between the yard, shipowners and design companies.

Simon Liang, Chairman & CEO of Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group, said: “Sinopacific Shipbuilding Group is an international enterprise driven by strategy and technology.

"Based on our predefined strategy, we take every potential region as our market. Norway is a leader in offshore sector and implements very high standards and rigorous requirements in environmental protection and safety to deal with extremely adverse climate.

"In addition to closer interaction with the Norwegian offshore industry, we also would like to show our open mentality and progressive attitude.”
