Minimum sentence to Dr Fai somehow welcomed, KSC
[03.04.2012, 04:08pm, Tue. GMT]
Minimum sentence sanctioned by US court against Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai Executive Director Kashmir American Council after withdrawing the charges from him to be working for foreign state is somehow welcomed. Norway national, Sardar Ali Shahnawaz Khan Executive Director Kashmir-Scandinavian Council (KSC) stated this after the fresh updates about the US court trail, which sentenced to Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai for 2 years in a lenient way with minimum security. I am relieved that the false charge against Dr. Fai that he was working for a foreign state, has been removed. The rest of the charge may be formally correct, but must be seen as politically motivated, Shahnwaz said.
He further said that keeping in mind that the US court system does not any more have the competence to have the final say in questions concerning national security issues. For some strange reason the political institutions are above the judicial institutions in these matters. Therefore, sentencing Dr Fai to two years in prison for formal errors in the accountancy of the NGO he is working for must be seen as being sentenced for Kashmir lobbying.
Khan further said, I believe that the case and the initial timing was politically motivated by the U.S government to please India, he said.

Khan said that it is a great victory for the World Kashmiri Movement that the judge underlined that Dr. Fai is free to continue to fight for his cause the way he has done in previous years.

AS Khan who is close friend and supporter of Dr Fai led an international interfaith delegation along with Lars Rise (Christian, Norway),  Charles (Christian, USA) and  Gavriel (Jew, Israel) to visit at his residence in the Washington Metropolitian subway area in February 2012.
Dr Ghulam Nabi Fai, Executive Director- Kashmir American Council/Kashmiri Centre Washington, shot into the limelight with the news of his arrest on, 19th July 2011 in Virginia, USA.

Dr. Ghullam Nabi Fai, Executive Director of Kashmiri-American Council (KAC), a native of Kashmir has been arrested in America on a claim that KAC is actually run by ISI, which it claims funneled four million dollars through this not for profit registered group for lobbying with US Government for promoting the cause of self determination of the people of Kashmir and having the US government take a position on it being a disputed territory.
