Golf star back on home turf
[31.08.2007, 12:32am, Fri. GMT]
Suzann Pettersen, Norway's best golfer on the pro circuit, was back home this week to play on Norwegian soil for the first time in a year.
Pettersen needed to fight off a bit of jet lag, after playing in Sweden two weeks ago, heading straight for Edmonton in western Canada and then back to Oslo. "I'm trying to get back into a normal daily rhythm," she told Aftenposten's web site Golf.no. "I've had two days with normal sleep, no problem."She's the favourite in this week's SAS Masters at the Losby Golf Club, which is nestled in a scenic valley on the northern tip of Oslo's forest to the east known as Østmarka.
The tournament is part of the Ladies European Tour and it starts Friday with a winner's pot of EUR 200,000. Last year's winner was Laura Davies of England, but she's not playing this year, leaving Pettersen the highest-ranked player in the field.
She admitted to having had a "tough time" since her triumph in an LPGA championship in June, "but my game sits well and I feel good enough to win," she said, adding that "It will be fun to play in Norway again."
Other Norwegian players include Lill Kristin Sæther, Cecilie Lundgreen, Marita Engzelius, June Bolme, Catharina Aasheim, Benedikte Grøtvedt, Karianne Hillås, Caroline Martens, Rachel Raastad and Ann Kristin Solvang.
Pettersen singled out Gwladys Nocera of France as her biggest rival in the SAS Masters. The two will play on the same side, though, in the European Solheim Cup in just a few weeks.
